Choose any three of the following seven questions. Each essay is worth 20 marks. You will be graded on content, analysis, structure and grammar.

 

1.      How does the discipline of international relations parallel the course of international relations in the 20th century?

2.      What were the causes and outcomes of World War II? Why is this war considered a “watershed” of the 20th century?

3.      What was the East-West divide and when, how and why did it come to an end?

4.      “Sovereignty is no longer a useful concept in international relations.” Why would someone make such a statement? Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Why or why not?

5.      Take an international relations event or issue, past or present, where you are familiar with the main facts, and offer an explanation of that issue based on three different levels of analysis.

6.      You are the adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of a newly independent country. What would you say to convince your Minister that the country needs a foreign policy? What information would you need to formulate a foreign policy for that country?

7.      Answer either A or B, not both

A. In your opinion, what are the three most important issues in international relations today? Why?

OR

B.     Why should Caribbean people study international relations issues that don’t directly concern them? Give at least two examples of such issues, past or present.
